Just finished listening to this happy little TGIF episode. Really enjoyed it! I desperately want to take a bunch of days off from my horrible job in Retail Hell right now, but can’t. Instead, I’m living vicariously through this Friday show from NaPodPoMo.

Mostly, I agree with you about the “produced vs. not-produced” type of podcasts. I’m not a big fan of the stuff that’s made using services like Talkshoe (phone quality). We always do Hyper Nonsense episodes in the studio, with a mixer and microphones and the whole deal. Us doing 30 HN’s in one month would be a bad idea, so I did a lot of personal (Shawnogram) ‘casts using my iRiver, and some were even (literally) phoned in. I also agree with you that “content is king,” and ultimately, stuff that’s good will transcend the level of production quality. At the end of the day, there are lots of different approaches.

I also like the more “natural” sounding shows, too. Hyper Nonsense has no edits once the show is started. Some of the podcasts I’ve done for Shawnogram have been edited, but it’s usually only when there’s long pauses without any talking. Like the episodes that I recorded while I was out walking.

The Inside My Head show is always shorter than an hour. I think the longest one of my shows has ever gone is maybe 45 minutes? Why? I have a very short attention span for all things technical. Any longer than that, and I’m just going to screw things up, or accidently delete stuff, or something like that.

I do listen to some shows that go for an hour or longer, when I am at home, sitting in front of this computer. I like listening to those shows. But, I would never want to do an hour long show (or longer) on my own.

I get the point, that it’s all about the content. As it should be.

I also wanted to say that I really enjoyed the song in this show. It’s light and breezy.

The “smart money” in podcasting always bets on short-form content. But me, I like long shows. Granted, I don’t want anyone to give me five 90-minute long shows a week. But overall, I do like shows that are longer (45 minutes or more) in length.

Just listened to this one now. Someday, I will catch up!

Really enjoying the weather reports. Gotta say, though, the horrible winters in Illinois were a big part of why I decided to move to California. I am a pretty good driver in snow, and had gotten used to sliding through intersections where the plows had left little piles of snow while on my way work as a Substitute teacher many many mornings.

But, I finally got to the point where I was resenting having to get up extra early to warm up the car, knock all the snow off the roof, and then scrape the ice off the windshield enough for me to drive to work. And then, to do it all over again after putting in a hard day at work. I hate being cold, too!

So, if you enjoy the snow… then good for you! It’s just not something for me.

Great show, and I really liked the 80s song at the end.

My uncle is English, but he spent most of the ’80s working in the US. My cousins were born in Chicago, so when I started following American Football I became a Bears fan.

The night games are on Channel 5 here in the UK. American Football is also on the satellite TV channel Sky and every Sunday we have a double header with an alternative game available for each slot through interactive TV. All the Sunday night, Monday night and Thursady night games are on Sky as well.

You’re worried about binge drinking in Wisconsin? Try living in the UK…

I’m right with you on editing podcasts. The only podcast of mine I ever went back and edited was my last full show. It was subtitled ‘IllCast’ and I only went back to edit out my sneezes.

You asked how we are listening to NaPodPoMo, and what we thought of all that. Well, I am way, way, way behind on listening to shows right now. I’m only listening to what is in the giant NaPodPoMo feed, and not all of them, and am still way behind. While I am enjoying the podcast madness this month, this is not something I’d want to do all the time.

I, for one, find it difficult to do a podcast every single day. And, if all of these shows decided to continue podcasting daily, well, I’d have to stop listening to some of them, in the hopes of staying current in the others.

Oh, and just wanted to say I enjoyed the weather report from Wisconsin. I live here in California, the land with no weather, and its nice to hear about different weather once in a while.

I think part of Evo’s snark may have killed the delivery of a message that I think you hit right on the head. His point that your PodCast is too long should be taken to mean that there may be things that your PodCast doesn’t need, that you should edit some of your audio crutches, and that you should stick to your theme. If your theme requires 45 minutes, Rock On. If your theme requires 35 minutes, and you run on for another 10… maybe it’s too long.

I don’t think Evo’s the end-all, be-all of PodCasting, but I did take his comments to heart, and seriously considered whether or not I had the right content to time ratio.

You hit it right on the head Bob, if it’s long enough, than it is… but at least think about it.

And you already put in the link… nice…

When I started doing my podcast I aimed to be about 45 minutes. Over time that has kind of gone away now that I don’t script my shows. My full shows are now generally a little over an hour. Some people complain that it no longer fits into their commute times, but like you said you can just stop it.

I haven’t been able to get reliable cell phone coverage inside my home using two different providers. It’s annoying.

And I considered getting an iPhone, but I’m already an AT&T customer and they won’t give me an equipment upgrade until next year. I ain’t paying $600.00 for a phone!

LOVE the music. Even if I don’t care for the song, easy enough to FF through… BUT I usually like the ones that you chose. “Come and Take A Ride” and “Victim Of Da Funk” are on my iPod playlist for every marathon I’ve ever run. Doubt I would have found either if it wasn’t for your ‘cast.

Hrrrrmmmm… Music…. Hrrrmmm…

a) I enjoy hearing what music you play. In most cases, it’s something I’ve not heard before. That’s what’s important to me, because I get to experience something new.

b) I really don’t like gangsta rap, or C&W Pop Music (you know, people who couldn’t make it as pop stars, and figure they can foist their musical… stuff… on the C&W world), also no manufactured boy bands, or pop-tarts.

c) After being exposed to more “popular” music at a recent scheduled corporate fun event, I’ve reinforced my belief that it, ummm, is not good. Playing that good new PodSafe music rocks on. (Chance and the Choir, Amplifico, Jonathan Coulton, and many many more obscure artists)

D) Ummmm… I can give you a couple of bucks… maybe…
