So we are fully into soccer season here at OAG central with my daughter playing travel soccer
and my son playing high school soccer for the freshman team. Here is a short video showing him scoring his first goal (hint: he is on the opposite side of the field from me)
Steven scores his first high school goal
This of course means that demands on my time will just get crazy for awhile. Of course one could say that time is always in demand around here, what with 4 sets of visitors coming over this past summer…or 4 family birthdays in the last 2.5 weeks. But what it DOESN’T mean is that you will get any less OAG goodness! In fact I have already been gathering some music for the next show and have found some great mashups to play. But in the meantime I have some homework for all my faithful listeners. I need to hear from as many of you as possible your feelings when it comes to music on the OAG podcast. As anyone who knows me even a bit would know, I love music and while I have enjoyed playing mashups and podsafe music over the three and a half years I have done this show, I am getting to the point that it takes me longer and longer to find stuff that I really enjoy and want to share in that vein. What I would really love to do is share some of the other music that I love and already have in my gigs and gigs of storage. Yes, we are talking about mainstream rock, pop etc. which brings along it’s share of legal complications. Having said that it seems more and more podcasters both large and small play un’podsafe’ music and don’t seem to have any issues. How is this and is it safe for me to do the same? What I want to hear from you folks is:
a) Do you enjoy music in the show in any form?
b) Do you have a preference as to what that music is?
c) Do you have any thoughts as to the whole ‘podsafe’ arguement?
D) Would you be willing to pay my legal bills if the RIAA comes knocking? (only kidding)
Please get back to me with your thoughts and in the meantime I will be putting together the next OAG!
Thanks,
Bob

Hrrrrmmmm… Music…. Hrrrmmm…
a) I enjoy hearing what music you play. In most cases, it’s something I’ve not heard before. That’s what’s important to me, because I get to experience something new.
b) I really don’t like gangsta rap, or C&W Pop Music (you know, people who couldn’t make it as pop stars, and figure they can foist their musical… stuff… on the C&W world), also no manufactured boy bands, or pop-tarts.
c) After being exposed to more “popular” music at a recent scheduled corporate fun event, I’ve reinforced my belief that it, ummm, is not good. Playing that good new PodSafe music rocks on. (Chance and the Choir, Amplifico, Jonathan Coulton, and many many more obscure artists)
D) Ummmm… I can give you a couple of bucks… maybe…

LOVE the music. Even if I don’t care for the song, easy enough to FF through… BUT I usually like the ones that you chose. “Come and Take A Ride” and “Victim Of Da Funk” are on my iPod playlist for every marathon I’ve ever run. Doubt I would have found either if it wasn’t for your ‘cast.
Re: Podsafe vs Non-PodSafe – Does anybody care? I mean really…
Regardless, whatever road is easier for you (and thus potentially increases the frequency of shows!) I’m all for!!!

most of the time, i haven’t a clue as to the music until i hear you play it. i just like hearing your voice & your take on our lives.
and no – i’m not paying your legal fees! oh wait – i’ll have to pay some of them. damn. i do know a good lawyer, if you get sued in new hampsta or maine.

I like the music, and like the indy/podsafe stuff. There is so much music out there you are bound to find stuff I’ve never heard before – so keep spinnin’ tunes! Mostly, keep doing what you like and we will listen! –A fan of the new media dads — Lynette
